In a welcome move, Dacia have confirmed that their Spring EV will come to the Irish market in the middle of next year.
It should be Ireland’s cheapest EV when it arrives on these shores and to date it has sold 120,000 units across Europe since its introduction in 2021. The version that lands here will be an all new version with major changes in design and equipment.
It will be unashamedly a city car, with the current model a five door supermini and that’s not likely to change. It won’t have a huge battery or long range, but as a cheaper, urban runabout, it should make a lot of sense for many Irish families.
Research taken from the Spring’s onboard data confirms that the average daily commute is under 30km, with average speeds of 25km/h, with home charging of an average duration of 3.5 hours per day, so the Spring could work well even with a second EV in the household.
Full pricing and specifications will be announced in 2024 but you can register your interest at www.dacia.ie/contact/spring-register-your-interest.html.
