Mercedes-Benz have announced details of their launches for 2023 and it looks like they’ll be busy bees.
In February, we’ll see facelifts for the A and B-Class cars, with high performance A35 and A45 models to act as halo models.
Later on, we’ll see the AMG C63 S e Performance. Mercedes claim that this will be the world’s most powerful four cylinder engine – I presume they mean production engine – with 238bhp per litre, which is really rather impressive.
I’m old enough to remember being stunned by 100bhp/litre in the Ford Sierra Cosworth and look where we are now.
Before the summer, we should see the EQS and EQE SUVs, based on the EQS and EQE saloons that are already on the market – in fact I’m driving the EQS this week.
It’s refreshing that the saloons were launched before the SUVs. To my mind a saloon is infinitely preferable to an SUV, particularly when it’s an EV.
A PHEV S-Class is next up and it will carry an AMG badge – the S 63 e Performance. This will feature a 4.0 litre V8 with up to 791bhp. It will have twin turbos and a 13kWh battery.
The big launch for 2023 is the new E-Class, now the 11th generation. I’m delighted to see that we haven’t seen the end of developments in ICE cars, even though I’m sure every version will have a partly electric powertrain.
Finally, towards the end of the year, the GLE, GLE Coupé and GLS will be facelifted and there will be a new three door coupé, although details of that model haven’t been announced as yet.
