The Renault Scenic E-Tech has been awarded European Car of the Year 2024 by a European jury this morning. The announcement was made at the Geneva Motor Show.
The Scenic won out over six other finalists, which were: BMW 5-series, BYD Seal, Kia EV9, Peugeot E-3008/3008, Toyota C-HR, and Volvo EX30. The final seven were chosen after a ballot in November of last year. The voting panel consist of 59 motoring journalists representing 22 countries.
Scoring 329 points, the Scenic was a clear winner over the BMW 5 Series on 308, the Peugeot 3008 on 197 and the Kia EV9 on 190.
It’s Renault’s seventh win in the competition, following the Renault 16 (1966), Renault 9 (1982), Clio (1991), Scenic (1997), Megane (2003), and Clio (2006).
The new Scenic is a full EV, developed on the AmpR platform, formerly known as CMF-EV. It’s weight is 1,890kg with a length of 4.47m and a claimed WLTP range of 625km.
“Winning the prestigious ‘The Car of the Year’ award is a great source of pride for everyone at Renault Group and the Renault brand. This recognition demonstrates that we have made the right choices: record-breaking range, generous and inviting roominess, all with a closely managed environmental footprint. When you add in the driving pleasure and ‘voiture à vivre’ equipment such as the new Solarbay panoramic sunroof or the latest generation OpenR Link system with integrated Google systems, Scenic has all the right features to shore up its position on the European EV market.” said Fabrice Cambolive, CEO Renault Brand.
The entry-level price for Scenic E-Tech electric should be under €40,000, when it comes to Ireland in the near future.
