Mercedes have launched their latest electric car, the EQB and it will come with a seven seat option, one of the few electric options on the market with that many seats.
It joins the already launched EQA, EQC and van-based EQV models and is will shortly be joined by the EQS and EQE, which is based on the E-Class.
It shares its dimensions with the GLB, which is a conventionally powered SUV. That means it’s well under 5m in length but a long wheelbase of almost 3m releases excellent interior room.
The second row of seats are adjustable as standard and there’s the option of a third row to make up the extra two seats. These stow beneath the boot floor and up to four child seats can be fitted in total. The maximum boot capacity is 1,710 litres.
There’s a usable battery capacity of 66.5 kWh and this leads to a claimed maximum range of 419km. Fast charging allows the battery to go from 10 to 80% in 30 minutes and there’s a 215kW motor fitted.
Contributing to the efficiency is a 0.28 Cd figure, aided by front and rear aprons, an enclosed underbody, closed cooling system and wind-optimised wheels with spoilers.
Styling closely follows the other EQ models in the Mercedes range so there’s a black panel front grille with a centrally mounted star, blue headlamp strips and a fibre optic lighting strip front and rear. Alloy wheels, in various colours, are available in sizes up to 20 inches.
The EQB also gets the latest tech including the MBUX operating system and advanced voice control of most functions, including the satellite navigation, which has additional features as befits an EV.
The EQB 250 is expected to be the best seller here, with a starting price from €64,030. There will also be an EQB 300 from €68,505 and an EQB 350 from €71,520.
