Bringing a bit of Christmas cheer to hard-pressed motorists is the decision to defer the proposed toll increases that were planned for January 1. The increased charges are now set to come in on July 1.
Some tolls, including that for the M50, were set to go up by up to 30c while others, including the Port Tunnel, would remain the same.
The decision is said to lose the state €12.5 million in lost revenue over the six months.
Toll charges are set annually relative to inflation, which is particularly high at the moment. There have been calls from some quarters to scrap the proposed increases altogether.
