Toyota unveiled their new Land Cruiser to packed crowds at the first day of the National Ploughing Championships on Tuesday.

The Cruiser still comes with a 2.8 litre turbodiesel but it’s now matched with an eight speed auto. The combination is now capable of pulling up to 3,500kg, matching the Hilux pickup.

Other features of the new jeep, a favourite with farmers remember, are Toyota Safety Sense technologies, electric power steering and adaptive cruise control.

The other major launch for Toyota at the ploughing is the new Toyota Corolla Professional hybrid, the only commercial hybrid on the market, which starts from €28,938. It benefits from 8% BIK, reduced emissions and better fuel consumption compared to a conventional ICE but of course, you can’t claim VAT on petrol as you can with diesel, which may be an issue.

The commercial Corolla has the same 1.8 litre hybrid powertrain as the passenger version and comes with the same interior, safety systems and stability controls.

Behind the front seats is a rubber lined loading area, behind a full height metal bulkhead. Comfort features include an 8” touchscreen with DAB, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, with dual zone air conditioning and heated seats.

Also on display in Ratheniska for the next few days are the C-HR Plug-in hybrid, Prius PHEV, RAV4 PHEV and the bZ4X electric car.

On the commercial front, along with the Land Cruiser, the stand also features the Hilux and Proace van.

Toyota’s stand will also feature their home charging systems suitable for PHEV or BEV.
