The third Salon Privé took place at Chelsea Gardens, London, last weekend with its unique format of a Salon de Vente, where everything on display was for sale.
In addition, there were a number of celebrations, with a gathering of 50 Porsche 911 Turbos on opening day, to celebrate 50 years since the model’s introduction.
The following day, it was the turn of the Aston Martin hypercar, the Valkyrie, with a world-record gathering of 14 of the hybrid supercars.
Saturday was Supercar Saturday with a display of 50 cars including a Porsche 918 Spyder, McLaren Senna, Ferrari F12 tdf, Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS and a Koenigsegg CCR.
A number of launches also took place, with Rolls-Royce introducing their electric future with the 300 mile range Spectre.
Also electric was Polestar, who launched their 4 coupé SUV. This is unusual in that it has no rear window, with a stereo camera taking the place of the rear view mirror. I thought the back would be claustrophobic but that isn’t the case and the image from the camera is exceptionally clear. The area around the camera is kept at a higher air pressure than its surrounds, so keeping the lens clean and dry. At least that’s the theory. I look forward to driving it on wet Irish roads.
MG is 100 years old this year and to celebrate their centenary, they brought along the new Cyberster roadster, an impressive two-seater EV with gull-wing doors. It produces 536bhp, boasts a 0-100km/h time of 3.2 seconds and the styling is epic.
The Concours de Vente featured over 50 classic cars for sale, including rare Bentleys, Aston Martins, Lamborghinis and a very special, just-restored Mercedes SL fitted with an original ski rack.
Salon Privé Chelsea may be over for this year but the next date is Blenheim Palace, which runs from August 28-31, with tickets on sale now.
