Coinciding with the recent London to Brighton Veteran Car run to Brighton, RM Sothebys held one of their regular sales of rare and classic cars.
Cars from all eras were represented at the auction, which took place in the centre of London at Marlborough House, near the Royal Automobile Club ’s headquarters.
Just over 50 cars were on sale and here are a few examples.
This 1974 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow was owned by Freddie Mercury until his death. The pre-auction estimate was stupidly low, at £20,000 to £30,000. The hammer fell at £286,000 with all proceeds going to charity.
A 1971 Lamborghini Miura, one of only 150 SV models produced, went for over £2m.
This beautiful 1959 BMW 503 Coupé is powered by a 3.2 litre V8.
I loved the interior and particularly the woodwork in this 1952 Mercedes-Benz 300 S Cabriolet.
Is there anything as beautiful as this 1967 Citroën DS 19 Pallas?

One of many Ferraris on sale, this 1973 365 GTB/4 Daytona was originally supplied in Brown, or Marrone Metallizzato, which sounds an awful lot more glamorous.
One of two Lancia rally cars on sale, this Delta S4 Group B was Henri Toivonen’s last WRC winner. Supercharged and turbocharged, its 1,800cc engine produces 480bhp.
