A third generation Tiguan has just been announced by Volkswagen, offering plug-in hybrid models with up to 100km of claimed range and DC charging.
Since its debut in 2007, more than 7 million have been sold and the new model is expected in Ireland in the first months of next year.
A new Digital Cockpit dominates the interior, offering digital services and app support. It’s designed to be particularly easy to use. Other equipment on offer includes massage front seats and matrix headlights with over 19,000 individually controlled LEDs per light.
The new infotainment system is controlled by a screen of up to 15” in size and this augmented with a digital cockpit for the driver and a new driving experience switch with its own integrated OLED screen to control the driving profiles, radio and the ambient lighting.
A new adaptive chassis control system offers the latest active safety features while the Park Assist can now drive out of spaces as well as into them and can be controlled from outside the car using a phone app.
The front end of the SUV has been redesigned with a glass covered horizontal strip between the LED lights. Air for the radiator now comes in at either side of the bumper and this helps reduce the drag coefficient to 0.28. There’s a horizontal LED strip at the rear and up to 20” wheels are on offer.
A range of powerplants, in addition to the PHEV, will be on offer, including turbo diesel, turbo petrol, with or without mild hybrid.
Like the ID model, the gear selector for the DSG transmission will be mounted by the steering wheel, which will also have paddles as standard.
For comfort, the front seats come with pneumatic four way lumbar adjustment and optionally come with a 10 chamber massage function. Seat heating and ventilation is also on offer.
